Prologue: Perilous Flames
It is a dismal night and the winds are restless. The vigorous winds scatter debris and old newspapers on the empty street. Sunset Avenue was fairly deserted besides a few homeless people that were scavenging for food and setting up temporary shelters for the night.
A pale girl was lighting a fire in a nearby alleyway. Finally after an hour later, there was smoke rising from the brilliant flames. The girl settled down on a torn blanket and curled up to go to sleep. Suddenly, the flames started to dance and red sparks started to spread on the ground. The girl didn't notice and continued to sleep peacefully, dreaming of warm houses and a good family that loved her. The embers in the fire started to take shape of a human figure. Gloomy shadows loomed over the sleeping teenage girl, then they swirled around the fire and started to take a human form. Of course, the figure was no human. It was a being of pure perfection and unbelievable power. But, the girl didn't know what it was. The homeless person started to stir. The swirling flames and shadows were combining slowly, only the upper body visible. The girl's eyes shot open and her jaw dropped in awe.
A few moments later, a black haired girl appeared. The embers caressed her body and beautiful glossy hair. The awe struck girl scrambled to her feet and reached for a rusted pipe. The other girl now looked like a fully formed woman. She walked out of the fire and flames trailed behind where she walked. Furious flames ignited in her path as she walked forward. The other girl had a pipe in her hand, ready to defend. But, the look on her face was one of fear and shock. Since when do people walk out of fire unharmed?
The woman glanced at her with a devious smile. Her eyes were burning with a fire of passion and she looked the girl over with hunger in her stare. She started to advance forward with less hesitation and her pace increased. The homeless girl stumbled backward, pushed up against a wall with no escape route.
“Who are you?” She stuttered as her eyes filled with terror as the woman came closer and closer. She dropped the pipe from her hands and it landed on the ground with a loud clank. The dangerously beautiful woman pinned the girl to the wall, their breath mingling.
“Your worst nightmare.” The woman replied. Her eyes were no longer filled with a fire of passion, but they were glowing phosphorescent. The hunger on her face was stronger than it was before.
The homeless girl started to feel a painful tingling in her head. Hot tears stained her cheeks and she strained not to cry for help. The tingling feeling became a sharp pain and she started to whimper helplessly.
The woman grinned an evil grin. The pain the girl was suffering was making her stronger.
Pain overwhelmed the poor girl and she collapsed to the ground. The more the woman pushed inside her mind, the more painful it was. She couldn't fight the pain, instead she became more vulnerable each second.
“Please stop...” The girl's voice trailed off and the whimpers turned into a plead of relief.
Instead, it became worse. A burning sensation took over her body and the pain was unbearable. A loud scream pierced the night and lights inside apartment buildings ignited. The scream was long and it continued to pierce the night as flames of insanity engulfed the homeless girl. A pile of white ashes was left in the spot where she was kneeling and crying out in pain. The small pool of ashes dissolved, never to be found again...
Well, that's the prologue. But, this fanfic focuses on my character Serena. I won't post the next chapter unless I get a comment or two. Please help a girl out and give me tips. XD Btw, my character is no 'Mary Sue.' She's a part of me that I wish to share.
