Chapter 1 - the beast inside...
----------------------------------------------------------
"Come in, Beast boy!" barked Robin on his communicator as he dodged a fiery swipe from the creature they had been chasing all day. "We need your help!" he added as he combat rolled to avoid another swipe of it's arms that burned through the floor that he was just standing. Robin took this chance and lobbed several ice disks into the creature's side, dousing the flames, but also changing the beast into a walking ice block.
"Beast boy to Robin. I'm on my way. Over," he heard Beastboy's reply as he jumped back to try and avoid the creature's sharpend ice arms, getting a cut across his chest in the process. Afterward the creature was bombarded from all sides by Starbolts, and parts of it's body were blown to chunks by Cyborg's cannon before the creature changed it's form to concrete from the floor.
The titans continued to pound it again, but the creature's new body just shrugged off any attack as it picked up an oil tank and tossed it at Cyborg, but missed as he blasted it sending flaming chunks flying everywhere. Raven then sent several Oil tanks flying into the creature with alot of power, and sent it wheeling backward as Starfire flew down and rammed it through the wall... yet it was still unharmed.
The creature simply kicked her off and rose to it's feet again, studying the titans as they chased after it through the hole. It did not see the green gorilla suddenly behind it where it was picked up and slammed head first into the ground. Beast boy didn't skip a beat, and picked it up again where he did the same thing again and again. This still proved ineffective, but then several more white creatures exactly like the first appeared out of the ground, and tackled him to free their comrade.
"What the heck? There are more of these things?" Cyborg growled with irritation as he fired his cannon at them. Sending a few off of Beastboy as he charged forward while still shooting his cannon.
"One is bad enough..." Raven deadpanned as she and Starfire flew past him and sent a few more of the creatures off of Beastboy as Robin hit the last one with a flying kick to the head.
Beastboy rose to his feet, and changed into a T-rex. Letting out a big roar, he charged toward the closest of the creatures and tried to chomp it in two, but the creature evaded him by melding into the ground before reappearing after he past. The other creatures used similar tactics, but then their arms narrowed and turned into sharp sword-like limbs that they began to swing at them wildly.
The creatures and titans fought for several more minutes, neither side getting any head way until the titans began to grow tired. The creatures, quite the opposite as they were about to push their advantage, but then suddenly, melded into the ground and dissappeared. "Oh my god... is there no way to beat these guys?" Cyborg panted, trying to regain his breath.
"I do not know, Cyborg. They appear to be very durable to our attacks," Starfire replied.
"Well, it's obvious we're dealing with something big. There's not one, but over several of these things and there may be more," Raven added sternly.
"Yeah, and we have to follow em and find out who's commanding em," Robin growled.
"Robin, you can't be serious. We're tired out, the day is basically over... we need to rest man," Cyborg groaned.
"He's right, they're much to tough to fight when we're exhausted," Raven nodded her agreement.
Robin sighed and stretched saying, "I guess you're right. No point in trying to chase them down and we can barely stand on our own two legs," Robin caved in. "Lets go home," he finished. The others agreed, except for Beastboy who hadn't said a single word to anyone since the creatures left.
When the got back home, Beastboy went straight to his room where he locked the door behind him and crashed into bed. He did not sleep, atleast not for a hour that he spent thinking about what Terra and what she said. She was right... things did change, and even though he hated to admit it, he couldn't change that. With this, he fell soundly asleep.
The following day approached, and after a quick breakfast the titans set out on patrol. Robin had a hunch that if one of these creatures made a persistent appearance, then more of them should be easier to track. Beastboy flew around the city, keeping a birds' eye view of the streets below until his gaze fell apon the school Terra went to. He couldn't help but land and gaze longingly at it thinking, "I just can't believe that everything has changed for the worst..." he sighed as a sudden explosion from within brought him back to reality.
This was soon followed by a scream, and without hesitation Beastboy grabbed his communicator and said, "Guys! Something's going on at Jump high!" he reported.
"Good work Beastboy, just stick tight and we should be there in a heart beat," Robin replied, but Beastboy didn't seem to hear him, and was already running into the school where he weeved through running students. He then came by a door that was ripped off it's hinges, and inside was a classroom full of petrified students, and one of those white creatures holding Terra by the hair.
"Let me go!" she demanded, kicking at the hulk feebly as it raised her up as if to examine her.
"Hey ugly! She said put her down!" Beastboy roared as he changed into a lion and pounced on the creature, making it drop Terra and sending it crashing into a wall. He then changed back and said to Terra, "Run! I'll hold it off!" he told her as the creature tried to pry him off, but had trouble when Beastboy turned into an octopus and clung to him.
"Be careful..." Terra said to him as she scrambled to her feet and ran out of there as fast as possible.
When she left, the creature had finally managed to pry Beastboy off, and slammed him through a couple of desks before he finally let go. It then tried to smash him with both fists, but missed as Beastboy turned into a snake and dodged it at the last secound where he turned into his Werebeast form and rammed the creature through a wall to the grounds outside.
"Crap... bad idea Beastboy," he thought to himself as the creature's body changed to rock. Then it backfisted the side of his face and kicked him off, scrambleling to it's feet to follow up with a couple punches. It was then that Terra came running out of the doors, stopping as she saw the sight of the creature once before trying to run past it... a big mistake as the creature turned around and grabbed her by the back of her shit. "Put her down!" Beastboy roared again as he turned into his werebeast form again and tried to pry it off.
Luckily for them both, a blue beam came hurtleling through the air and slammed into the Creature, sending it flying backward after losing it's grip on Terra. "Booya..." Cy smirked as Robin ran up and shouted...
"Titans go!" and off everyone went pounding the creature again with vicious speed. The fight was very short, as the creature seeing that it was outnumbered, for whatever reason dissappeared back into the ground where it fled. After everyone made sure the thing was gone, and that it wasn't getting any buddies, Robin said, "So... Beastboy was right," he said eyeing Terra.
"Oh my friend! How good it is to see you again!" Starfire squealed as she was about to give Terra one of her bone crunching hugs. She was luckily stopped by Beastboy...
"Uuuh, do I know any of you?" Terra said confused, raising an eyebrow and turning to Beastboy for help.
"Yeah... they are... or used to be your friends," Beastboy said, a smile he had a minute ago dissappearing. "This is Robin, Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg..." he added glumly.
"Oh, hey..." Terra said.
"You don't remember us?" Robin asked puzzled.
"No... I don't think I've ever met any of you," Terra replied. "But can we save that for another time, why was that... that thing after me?" she demanded.
"We're not entirely sure... but I think it whould be best if you came back with us to the tower," Raven replied, frowning at her as she seemed to look over her shoulder like she was being watched. "It's the safest place you can be right now until we can figure out what that thing wanted with you, and where it came," she added sternly.
"Oh... ok I guess," Terra said hesitant on the idea.
"Then it's settled, everyone pile into the T-car!" Cyborg said, leading the way as Raven's paranoia was not being paranoid, but someone, or something, was watching them as they left....
