In actuality, I didn't like the episode... it was nothing compared to the greatness of "Lightspeed" sure it was a great satisfaction to finally know that the day had come and all that anticipation piles up and you make things seem bigger than neccessary... yes that's what I usually do. But reality hit me, and I noticed that is episode was lacking, it lagged, once again it never really did give you a popper when it came to the timing. Things didn't seem to fit in... it all seemed random.. if looked at closely.
The opening sequence was amazing, Hayden did a great job with Starfire's grunts/groans/moans... etc lol. It makes you wonder what they did to her before the making of the show started
Robin's little entrance.. ooo dear me... I love anything to do with batman, at that moment, I was expecting Batman to appear behind Robin like nodding him off saying "You're ready to go on your own now" but... no xD. It was still great to see Robin's little "dark knight" side and how it's like to be overshadowed by such greatness. Loved the whole flying bats... though it makes you question, what was Robin doing with bats? Cage in a utility belt? Maybe he should put robins in there instead... but then again.. red breasted birds aren't as terrifying.
Starfire... I loved her brutality, and the fact that they allowed her to speak Tamaranian. Kudos to the writers, directors, voice actors... etc for making an imaginary language seem so real. It was amazing to see Starfire's strength at full force. The inner fangirl in me squealed when I watched her pick up the car with just her foot with such ease and kick it across the block and into a building. And even when Robin hit her with his bo, and it crumbled, and Starfire rose from the car, cracking her neck with a smirk... god... that was jsut awesome.
And that's when the problems started. We see Starfire's true tamaranian side... and yes it could be influenced by the fact that she was a prisoner, but to be brutally honest... where the f*** did the persona go? Now it's like she's trying to hold back, or something. We've seen that the Tamaranians are proud people with amazing abilities... yet here we have miss puff princess... her personality did a total 180... and when did that all happen *gasp* "ROBIN!" damn you bird boy... you just ruined a potentially awesome character lol.
The fight scene between Robin and Starfire was just awesome, though at times it seemed that the artists slacked... but... yes I do care xD. What really annoyed the frick out of me was when Starfire rammed his across the face with her shackles on, and with brute force. You cannot tell me that Bird Boy's jaw did not dislodge itself... or something. But meh it's cartoon, he can kick a ton of bricks a few feet back, why not take a hit from some alien chick.
Onward to the appearances, the moment I saw that dark blue cloak... and was like "RAVEN!" and yes there she was with her big eyes watching the fight, she was planning something, but she was also holding back. What with her sighness and all. Totally protrays the truth of how she was treated back in Azerath, shunned, and kept alone, forced to hide who she really was in fear of unleashing something evil.
But then again we don't know what the f** she was doing there or how the f*** she got there... so that's a minus to the writers... or writer *david slack*
Beastboy... oh my god, he was just so cute! If he was real I would hug him to death xD. I mean the mask, and I love the way Cripes did his voice... it was just awww... But still way too random for me. He pops out of nowhere, states his position and blah... really how did beastboy get to Jump CIty, why? blah blah... but then again we can assume everything from the flash back given to us in homecoming pt1...
Cyborg, so we can safely assume that he is part of the JC community... but yet again. LACKING backup history. All we get is an outburst and I sat there thinking he was in some horrid car accident or football accident or something lol. But it did make me feel bad for him and in the end, "I'm only gonna say this once, BooYah" lol. He had a nice entrance, with some really nice clothing.
The Kiss... meh yes as a R/R fan I cannot deny it, but you know what... I really don't, like care anymore xD. Really I don't. Aside from the fact that the kiss was completely void of any emotion, it was nothing but a simple tamaranian ability that Starfire used to absorb the human speech from Robin. If R/S shippers want to make an arguement, use the little blushing scene in the end of the show. Other than that, Starfire and Robin never do last in the comics, and despite the hints, they'll never put them together in the show only because it would ruin it, unless of course the show was FOR SURE over.
The gardodians (however the f you spell their name) we're kind of lame, weak, etc. Their leader was cool though you know gotta love that bad arse attitude with a huge gun to launch on the city. Unlike Slade who just does stuff in the shadows that get really annoying. meh
The areas that started to suck was when they all met in the videogame store. I guess that was the time when Slack found out he didn't have enough time so he just mushed everything together. And the artists also discovered they were pressed for time so they did the whole still frame, but background and cool music is playing thing for the fight scenes... meh.
Phew... I'll have to wrap this up... the laundry bell rung lol. Anyway so that's my review and in conclusion this was an okay episode.... I mean I read a Teen Titan origin fanfic
and it was better
but hey I'm not the writer.. I'm just the fan, and I have to go buy stuff to ensure this show stays on. Which I won't because I'm perfectly happy downloading everything. Besides... with TT gone JLU will come back. Finally some QUALITY DC works xD.
Back to the show. Not as great as For Real and definitely not better than Lightspeed. But I give it a B- for effort and nice scenery... and stuff. My overall grade:
B or 7/10
