Yea, you roleplay. Crammed after the daily blah, and smushed after feeding the dog, practicing the guitar, or whatever you do, rpg is another dot on the list. Typing on the keyboard, about twenty inches away from the computer screen, it isn't a walk in the park. Hell, it ain't easy, there is detail, interest, categories, plots, and freeplay. For some, it's simple, like drawing a dot on a piece of paper. Some others, however, it pretty much feels like painting the Sistine Chapel at the last four hours notice. If you are like the some others, read on. If you aren't, then maybe you'll learn some other things. Enjoy.
One last thing. If you need any other help, PM me a roleplay sample, it can be made-up of your roleplaying, or a insert from a thread, and I'll rate and help you with it. I know what I'm doing, so don't hesitate.
Later.
- Detail: Detail is one of the main things of a rp post, most of you know that. A simple one-liner in a substantially interesting plot can ruin it completely, such as the the example here:Jack glared at Scarlett, "Face it. I win." He said, throwing a claw at her head with a laugh.
It is short, dry of any plot or interest, and it makes the other member feel the writer is bored, and it bluntly shows no emotion. If you would make it into a more worthy post, try this.Rain sleeted down on the two below, their blood slowly draining in the asphalt streets, and the battle could only rage on. With this in mind, the demonic, gray skinned teenager furrowed his thick eyebrows at the girl before him; Cocky, ingenious, almost indestructible. "Face it Scarlett Therin," His gruff voice muttered, slightly panting it out. His claw started to come out of his index finger, and latching the feet to the left, they flew out to the adversary in a blinding, swift move that aimed at her knee, hoping to take the young woman by suprise. "I win again."
Not only was that ten times better, the post looks more professional, probably getting the other user post more. How to do it, is use certain details about the enviroment, emotionally, and physically. What is the weather like? Does it affect the battle between the two? What's the grudge between 'em? Detail anything, but not too much, because othewise, it might get confusing. Physical movement in detail works perfectly, because it not only makes you and your character look good, it gives the other rp'er something to work with. - Creativity: Creativity also keeps everything elegant and insanely professional. If you use the same kind of scenario or fighting type every time when facing an opponent, it gets flat-out boring, and it gives the other rp'er an advantage point. Try using a new stance, defensive, attack, or simply standing and waiting for the other adversary to strike. Not only that, but use different attacks, different and unique ways to take down an opponent, and it simply challenges the other user. Sure, it's challenging, but it's worth the plot structure you would be making. Try it, and it should help you out.
- Control: One of my pet peeves is any certain person that trys to control a certain moment, or a project, etcetera to make them look good. Frankly, it's rude, annoying, and it only makes you look like a two year-old. If you enter a thread with your character, try to go with the flow of the plot, or idea the user has made in the beginning post, and it will work a lot better. Don't try to break a pair's moment, or make it seem like your character is unappreciated and not noticed. They aren't. It's stupid, arrogant, and simply childlish, so don't do it, and flow with the plot and/or story.
- Lastly, good luck, and read over this guideline.
